Fab Lab El Paso invites high school and college students to join us in our three-day Accessibility Make-A-Thon, a groundbreaking event aimed at enhancing accessibility within the La Nube STEAM Discovery Center. This event will empower local students to design assistive tactile maps that will improve the museum experience for visually impaired visitors.
In partnership with Autodesk, the Council of the Blind, VIBE El Paso, and Mike Dee’s Big Adventure, the Make-A-Thon will offer an inclusive learning environment where participants gain hands-on experience in 3D design, digital fabrication, and empathy-driven STEAM education.
Design with Purpose: Teams will develop solutions like tactile maps to improve wayfinding and engagement for visually impaired visitors.
Empower Local Youth: The event connects mentors like Guillermo Melantoni, Director of Product Fusion360 and Tinkercad, with students in El Paso, providing mentorship and tackling educational disparities.
Innovate and Inspire: The event combines real-world problem-solving with insights into engineering, architecture, and design careers, making STEAM education accessible and relevant.
Pathways to STEAM Careers: Expose students to tools like Fusion 360, develop their technical skills, and highlight career opportunities in engineering and design.
