Artist Workshop: Marbles in Motion by Fantasy Art

Join us for an exciting hands-on art workshop where creativity meets science! In Marble Motion, participants will use marbles and paint to create mesmerizing abstract artwork while discovering the STEM principles behind fluid motion, force, and gravity. As marbles roll, twist, and turn across the canvas, they become tools of both artistic expression and scientific exploration. Perfect for curious minds of all ages, this workshop reveals how movement and energy shape the way we see—and make—art!

Art on Rotation: Local Voices, Limitless Vision

At La Nube, our mission is to ignite curiosity, creativity, and community through hands-on discovery—and the Rotating Gallery is a vibrant extension of that vision. By partnering with local organizations and showcasing the artistic voices of young and emerging talents, this gallery becomes more than an exhibit—it’s a living celebration of our region’s imagination and diversity. Each rotation invites fresh perspectives, new stories, and collaborative opportunities that empower kids to see themselves as artists, innovators, and changemakers. Together, we’re building a space where creativity is not only displayed—but deeply valued and nurtured.

This art show theme celebrates both where we come from and where we’re going. “Roots” symbolize the care, support, and sense of belonging that the Lee & Beulah Moor Children’s Home. “Wings” represent the curiosity, imagination, and future-building that La Nube fosters. Together, the theme invites young artists to explore personal growth, innovation, resilience, and dreams for a better future through the lens of STEAM and community.

What is the La Nube Artist-in-Residence program?

The Artist-in-Residence program at La Nube Children’s Museum invites local artists to share their creativity with young minds through engaging, hands-on experiences. The residency provides artists with a platform to create, teach, and connect with families in a STEAM-rich, curiosity-driven environment. It’s a unique chance to inspire the next generation while showcasing your work to a wide audience.

Who can apply?

We welcome applications from artists of all backgrounds who:

Live and work in the El Paso or surrounding Borderland region
Work in any visual or interdisciplinary medium (painting, sculpture, illustration, printmaking, fiber arts, digital, etc.)
Enjoy working with children and families in an interactive setting
Are excited about La Nube’s mission to spark wonder through science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM)

What are the benefits of being an artist-in-residence?

Be featured on our website, social media, and in local press.
Have opportunities to build community connections.
Receive a supply budget (details provided upon acceptance)
Sell personal merchandise in our gift shop

What’s expected of the artist during the residency?

Host a minimum of 2 one-hour workshops or activities for families
Be present at La Nube for scheduled meet-the-artist days or interviews
Collaborate with museum staff to ensure a safe, accessible, and enriching experience for visitors

How long is the residency?

Residencies are typically one month long, with flexible scheduling options for workshops.

How do I apply?

Interested artists should submit:

A short artist statement and bio
A proposal describing your idea for a hands-on activity or workshop
3–5 images of past work
Contact information and social media/website links

When will I know if I’ve been accepted?

Applicants will receive a confirmation email within one week of submission and final decisions are typically made within 2–4 weeks. Selected artists will be contacted to schedule a planning meeting with our team.

Is there a cost to apply?

No! It’s completely free to apply to the Artist-in-Residence program at La Nube.

Can I apply with a collaborative group or partner?

Yes! We welcome collaborative proposals from artist duos or collectives, especially those that reflect the diversity and creativity of our Borderland community.
